Materials mechanical characterization at high frequency
One of the great advantages of the DMA test technique is the ability to study viscoelastic properties at different excitation frequencies. The figure below shows both modulus and Tan Delta up to 1000 Hz for a PUR elastomer. These typical results show a slight increase in E’ and Tan Delta with frequency, due to a different response of the polymer chain under fast vibrational mechanical excitation. Frequency sweep testing has proved useful for understanding the behavior of many different polymers in use, for example the grip capability of running shoes. The unique design of the DMA+ mechanical test frame has been engineered to offer a unique range of analysis frequencies from quasi-static to 1 KHz.
