Effect of frequency on viscoelastic properties of materials

The viscoelastic properties of materials are highly dependent on the excitation frequency. While the glass transition is conventionally determined at a frequency of 1 Hz, the damping and modulus of materials can vary drastically and differently as a function of temperature and frequency. DMA analysis provides the key to perfect selection of the right materials for a specific end-use application requiring specific performance. The example opposite shows the dependence of the mechanical properties of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) material.
